Twenty of those years she slept on it alone - after Dads death. It was a journal telling of a concealed affair. Heres an excerpt:I had come from the springhouse carrying a half-gallon jug of cold milk, when I heard the sound of a truck. I almost dropped the jug when Alfonsos truck pulled up.Now who could that be? Frank asked as he met me in the yard.I wouldnt know, I told him and then rushed inside the house as though I was afraid of strangers.Through the kitchen window, I saw Frank stride to the open window of the drivers side of the truck. You lost or something? I heard Frank ask.Is this the Frank Ledford place?

Alfonso asked as he opened the truck door and got out, even though Frank hadnt invited him to do so.Could be, Frank drawled. Who wants to know?Im Alfonso Cohan. I take pictures of old barns and then paint pictures of them.Frank gave him a look as though he were an alien from Pluto.Alfonso ignored the look as though it wasnt obvious. A man in town told me you had a dandy of a barn and I was wondering if youd mind me snapping a picture of it.You take pictures of old barns and then paint paintings of them?

Frank said in disbelief.I do.You tetched in the head or something? Frank asked with sincerity. Most likely, Alfonso grinned that grin I had learned to treasure. I nearly broke into a flood of tears from the pain I was feeling. It didnt seem right that my husband and the man I loved stood out there in the yard, and they werent the same man.
